Project goal:

To improve the security and reliability of Western Australia’s water supply for decades to come.

Status:

In construction

Delivery Date:

Mid 2022 - 2024

What's happening?

We’re replacing the old, worn reticulation pipes in the South West and Great Southern regions. Some sections of the water pipe network are old and starting to show signs of wear and tear. This work is essential to avoid future breaks and leaks and will help improve water reliability for decades to come.

The old reticulation pipes will be replaced largely via open trench methods. Work will typically take place within the verge, however, some work will be carried out within the road.

As well as replacing the water pipe within the verge, we may also be required to replace the property service pipe that extends to the water meter within some property boundaries at some locations. The replacement of this pipe is dependent upon its material, age and condition and if required we will notify affected residents/businesses in advance.

How will this work impact me?

We understand construction work can be disruptive.

  • Construction can be noisy and dusty. As with any construction work there will be an increase in noise, dust and activity in the area. We will aim to reduce these impacts where possible. Some work will involve cutting into the ground which may cause vibration.

  • Access to residential driveways may temporarily be restricted. Our contractors will notify affected customers prior to this occurring; please let them know if you have any concerns. Access to businesses will not be impacted.

  • You may experience a temporary water supply interruption while the new pipe is connected to your property. If affected, our team will notify you 48 hours prior to this occurring. If you would like some bottle water provided during this time, please get in touch.

  • There may be temporary lane closures, detours or road closures. Please follow the detours that are in place and speak to a crew member onsite if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Our construction methods mean unavoidable impact to properties, roads, footpaths and verges, including reticulation. We follow a thorough restoration process to return areas to as close to their original condition as reasonably feasible.

Work areas will be restored to as close as reasonably possible to their previous condition at the completion of work. For more information on restoration, please visit watercorporation.com.au/pipesforperth and click on the ‘Restoration FAQ’ tab.
