Teach the Great Southern region’s unique water story with ready-to-use lessons and hands-on activities. Activity kits are free to borrow and align with the curriculum for Science and HASS at each year level.

Water supply & conservation kit

This kit gives you the tools to teach water supply, water conservation, and water sustainability confidently.

Students will explore how our region’s water systems provide water for today, and how waterwise choices can protect our water for tomorrow.

What's covered at each year group?

Kindy to Year 1

Discovering water

Students will engage in play-based activities that explore:

• The importance of water for people, plants and animals
• Introduction to our drinking water sources 
• Where water is used in the household
• Water wasting and water-saving behaviours in the home 

Years 2-4

Water processes 

Students will engage in hands-on activities that explore:

• The role of dams, groundwater and desalination in providing safe and reliable drinking water
• How our water sources have changed over time
• Water filtration and the basic water treatment process
• How their everyday choices and can make a difference  

Years 5-6

People and sustainability

Students will engage in inquiry-based learning that explores:

• Our water sources and how they have changed over time
• The impact climate change is having on our water supply
• Where water is used in the home and common water wasting behaviours
• How sustainable choices can help protect our water supply
