Danielle: My name is Danielle Headland. I've worked here for about two months and my role is the Organisational Development and Performance Administrator.
My role involves supporting members of my team and their stakeholders in their training, and also just maintaining day-to-day HR operations.
Kirby: My name's Kirby Cryer, I am the Employment Relations officer in the People & Capability business unit and I've worked here for three and a half years.
So day-to-day I managed the flexible work and study assistance process, and I also answer all queries relating to the Enterprise Agreement and employment conditions.
I always knew I wanted to work in HR, so I was really lucky that a role became available, so I applied through the careers page. And before my interview I was offered and given interview preparation as part of the Aboriginal Recruitment Standard and that really helped me.
Devyn: My name is Devyn Jackamarra and I started one day a week at Water Corp in October 2017, just while I was doing my thesis to get a feel for the organisation and what work I'll be coming into, and I officially started the grad role about February 2018.
My role as a Graduate Project Engineer, on a day-to-day basis involves helping out the Project Manager on whatever project they're working on. So that can go from answering sort of internal technical queries even out through contractors, all the way to setting up important meetings with local government authorities and going out to site just for small inspections and safety inspections and things like that.
Kirby: So, on my first day I was assigned a buddy from my team to assist me with settling into my new role and I completed all of my online inductions, and I was given a tour of the John Tonkin Water Center.
Devyn: The induction process for me was, it was like a group induction with all the grads for my intake. So we all sat together and did workshops, in office trainings, went to visit sites just to see the equipment itself, and met a lot of people and hear them speak about their role in the organisation.
Danielle: Water Corporation has a lot of fantastic opportunities for development across the business in terms of mentoring, right from the low levels right up to executive.
Devyn: Yeah I'm part of the mentoring program at Water Corp and my mentor is actually someone who came from my hometown Moora and he did a youth program with me through my years at school when I was 13. And to come into the Water Corporation and see like a friendly face from home really helps and he helps me with technical queries, anything I need - like even where to get coffee or stuff like that. Anything I ask he will help me out with, so it’s really nice.
Danielle: I would encourage all Aboriginal people to apply for jobs at the Water Corporation. There are a lot of opportunities here to develop and succeed not only just in terms of securing employment, but being able to develop within those roles.
Devyn: Everyone here is really approachable and super nice and very diverse and so everyone's really funny and helpful. Helping me out to succeed.
Danielle: My favourite part about working at the Water Corporation is a sense of community. It kind of feels a little bit family like here, and I enjoy coming to work every day because of that.
Kirby: Water Corporation always celebrates NAIDOC and Reconciliation week so I think one of my favourite things about working here is how much our culture is celebrated. It really makes me proud to work here.
