[Tung Nguyen]: The Alkimos to Wanneroo pipeline will transport up to 50 billion litres of drinking water each year from the Alkimos Seawater Desalination Plant to the Wanneroo Reservoir, helping supply homes, businesses and communities across Perth.

[Tung Nguyen]: It’s part of a $2.8 billion commitment from the WA Government to ensure long term water security - supporting our communities and WA’s future.

Stretching 33.5 kilometres, the pipeline winds its way from Alkimos through Carabooda, Nowergup and Neerabup, then along the edges of Banksia Grove, Mariginiup and Jandabup before arriving at Wanneroo Reservoir.

At 1.6 metres wide, it’s the largest diameter water pipe ever built in WA.  Each 12 metre pipe is manufactured locally, supporting local jobs.

To deliver this project, the team has four construction crews working at different points along the route. 

Much of the pipeline is built within the road reserve and public areas. A route carefully chosen to minimise impacts on homes, the environment and key community spaces.

While this means changes to road access at times, construction is planned to limit disruption and reopen areas as quickly as possible.

The pipeline is on track for completion in 2027, ready to carry water from the Alkimos Desalination Plant in 2028.
