Esperance Water Supply Upgrade
Project goal:
Equip three new bores and install new water collector pipeline.
Status:
In planning.
Delivery Date:
Proposed to commence mid-2025
What’s happening?
We are proposing to equip three new groundwater bores in the Esperance region (Eleven-mile borefield sub area) and construct associated infrastructure, including 1.2 km of water collector pipeline.
Why is this happening?
With increasing demand for groundwater supplies in the Esperance Groundwater area, and decreasing rainfall, the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation has recently reviewed its Allocation Plan. As part of this review, DWER has determined that our "Town" subarea allocation - which currently provides for the majority of the public drinking scheme's supply - will be reduced significantly to manage the environmental aspects of abstraction.
Our decreased groundwater allocation capacity from the Town subarea will be replaced with increased capacity in the Eleven-mile subarea. The Eleven-mile borefield subarea has a large available allocation but does not currently have sufficient bores to utilise that allocation.
The use of these three new bores in the Eleven-mile subarea will not increase Water Corporation's total abstraction allocation in the Esperance Groundwater area.
When is this happening?
Subject to receiving all relevant approvals, it is anticipated construction will commence in mid-2025.
