A highly ornamental, small tree or medium shrub. The branch ends are silver-grey and carry large, formally arranged silver grey leaves. Very large, red, stemless flowers are produced mostly in spring and summer but occasionally at other times of the year. Yellow and pink flowered forms are also known. Bird attractant. May be pruned if necessary. Needs full sun. Susceptible to attack by leaf-eating caterpillars.
