  • State Government works with local artists to transform Water Corporation grey electrical cabinets and pump stations around Albany into works of art

  • Splash of Colour Program enlisted Albany youth to help with designs

There are some colourful new additions in the Albany CBD, Middleton Beach, Orana and Emu Point after the State Government enlisted artists to transform dull grey Water Corporation cabinets into vibrant pieces of art.

Throughout May and June, the Water Corporation's Splash of Colour program turned everyday water and wastewater assets into public art pieces, reflecting the local community's connection to water.

The Water Corporation held workshops with students from Albany Senior High School and the Albany Youth Support Association to highlight their connection with water through the artwork.

The Water Corporation began Splash of Colour as a trial last year with eight electrical cabinets and pump stations painted in the South West. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive and the program has now been rolled out across Western Australia, with work now underway in the north west of the State.

So far, 34 Water Corporation assets have been turned into community art pieces through the Splash of Colour Program.

Comments attributed to Water Minister Dave Kelly:

"I continue to be blown away by the talent of the local artists who have created beautiful works of art for the whole community to enjoy.

"Keep an eye out when travelling along Port Road and York Street in the Albany CBD, with two formerly dull, grey wastewater pump stations now featuring beautiful pieces of art courtesy of the most recent round of the Water Corporation's Splash of Colour program.

"You can see more of the transformations along Garden Street in Middleton Beach, Le Grande Avenue in Orana and Firth Street in Emu Point.

"Thank you to artists Cody Hulkes, Karlee Bertola, Glenn Hegedus and Chad Marwick for your efforts to bring these assets to life."
