Over the last decade teachers at the school have educated students on the need to value, protect and conserve water.

Water Corporation South West Regional Manager, John Janssen, presented the school with a certificate at its ‘Bay Ok Day’ celebration.

“Our water supplies continue to be impacted by climate change, so it’s important the next generation understand the value of water and adopt waterwise behaviours,” Mr Janssen said.

“Last year we helped the school save millions of litres of water by installing a state-of-the art irrigation system which connects to WiFi and uses local weather conditions to determine when sprinklers were needed.

“Students also undertook a water audit as part of a school sustainability project.

“We hope the Waterwise Schools Program helps inspire students to develop a positive, life-long commitment to sustainable water use.

“Thank you Dunsborough Primary School for your dedication to the Waterwise Schools Program – we look forward to the next 10 years.”

Dunsborough Primary School Principal, Gary Jones, said education played an important role to create waterwise communities.

“We’re proud of our many sustainable school initiatives and 10 years as a Waterwise School is a proud milestone and highlight,” Mr Jones said.

“Students are well versed in water saving habits at school and in the home, and have a true appreciation of water as a valuable resource.

“It has highlighted the important role schools and communities play in helping to conserve water in our environment.”
