Project goal:

To upgrade the East Rockingham Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) and construct a new wastewater pipeline along Patterson Road in Rockingham and East Rockingham.

Status:

In construction

Delivery date:

Pipeline construction is due to commence mid-December 2023 and take approximately 15 months to complete.
Construction will be completed in four stages to minimise disruption, starting at the Swinstone Street end.

What’s happening?

The Point Peron Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is ageing so we are building a new pipeline to divert wastewater to the East Rockingham Water Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF). This 4.8km pipeline will be constructed by Water Corporation’s authorised contractor Civcon, from Rockingham Senior High School on Read Street to the East Rockingham WRRF on Alumina Road.

When is this taking place?

The works are scheduled to start in mid-December 2023 and are anticipated to take approximately 15 months to complete.
Most of the work will be completed Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm. However, for some small sections where there is high traffic during the week, we are working on a traffic management plan for evening and/or weekend work to minimise disruption.

How will this impact the community?

Noise

During construction, there may be an increase in activity, truck movements and noise while we build the pipeline. Construction will involve some noisy work, including road cutting (where required), excavating and compacting.

We are committed to minimising the impact on the community and the environment as much as possible during construction. As such, the proposed pipeline will be constructed in four stages.

Road closures

While we will aim to always maintain access to roads, there may be times when we will need to temporarily close a road. Traffic management will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians.

The pipeline crosses three main roads: Read Street, Dixon Road and Ennis Avenue. Micro tunnelling is planned for these sections, meaning we will drill under the road, which will enable these roads to remain open during construction.

Reinstatement

We follow a thorough reinstatement process to ensure all impacted areas are replaced like for like, where possible. Unfortunately, our work will result in unavoidable impact to roads and verges.

Once the new pipe is in the ground all open trenches will be backfilled, compacted and reinstated. We will work closely with the City of Rockingham, residents and businesses to ensure all reinstatements are carried out to an acceptable and high standard.
