You can now register to have a licensed plumber carry out a free check of your home, including fixing minor leaks on toilets, taps and showers. You may even receive a free upgrade on your current fixtures.

How to apply for your free plumbing service

  1. Complete, sign and submit the application form.
  2. If you’re eligible, we will provide your details to a licensed plumbing contractor in your area.
  3. You'll be contacted by the contractor within a few weeks to arrange a suitable time to visit your home.

The Corporation’s Waterwise Plumbing Service is only available to Water Corporation customers. The program offers a waterwise service to promote the efficient use of water and reduce wasted water for customers. The service includes a property inspection, repair, retrofit/replacement of inefficient showers, taps, and toilets, conducted by a contractor employed by Water Corporation.

The Service is offered free of charge to eligible customers but limits apply.

Plumbers will carry out an Inspection of the plumbing at Your property and determine whether any plumbing Fixtures need to be repaired, retrofitted or replaced to improve water efficiency.

The Corporation offers this Program in accordance with the following terms and conditions.

Definitions

  • Corporation: the Water Corporation;
  • Inspection: the Plumber’s inspection of Your property to identify and document the repair, retrofit and replacement requirements for Fixtures at Your property;
  • Plumber: a licensed Plumbing Contractor;
  • Program: the Corporation’s Waterwise Plumbing Program;
  • Service: the plumbing services provided to repair, retrofit and/or replace plumbing Fixtures, provided in accordance with the Program;  
  • You: the person wishing to participate in the Program;
  • Approved: approved by Water Corporation Project Manager
  • Residential: a customer not identified as business customer

Eligibility

To qualify for this Program You must be a customer of Water Corporation and Your property must be property located in the towns listed on Water Corporation's website.

If You are a tenant, prior to the Plumber’s visit to Your property, You must obtain, and provide to the Corporation, the landlord’s written permission to participate in the Program and to allow the Plumber to undertake the Services.

The Corporation may offer the Program to residential or business or both at its sole and absolute discretion.

Inclusions

The Service will be provided by a Plumber who will:

  • undertake the Inspection;
  • recommend what work is required to upgrade water inefficient Fixtures; and
  • obtain approval from the Corporation to undertake the Services.
  • The Corporation will determine which Fixtures are required to be repaired, retrofitted and/or replaced and what product/s the Fixture is to be repaired, retrofitted or replaced with.

The Corporation will pay the cost of:

  • the Inspection;
  • all approved Fixtures required to repair, replace or retrofit existing Fixtures; and
  • all approved repairs, retrofit or replacement of existing Fixtures determined necessary by the Plumber to ensure that the plumbing is water efficient. 

For residential properties, the Services are limited to:

  • an Inspection;
  • Repair of leaking taps or toilet cisterns by conducting maintenance and replacement of worn valves/washers, where required;
  • Evaporative air conditioner system check and reset (if required).

Inefficient plumbing Fixtures to be retrofitted and/or replaced with new water efficient Fixtures as follows:

  • Retrofit of appropriate WELS star rated taps (higher rated taps for hand basins compared with sinks) in kitchens and bathrooms;
  • Retrofit of ‘WELS 4 star rated’ water efficient showerheads to deliver 7.5 litres per minute, replacing inefficient showerheads (fixed and flexible showerheads only);
  • Retrofit of ‘WELS 4 star rated’ aerators to sink/basin taps where suitable and required for greater efficiency to deliver 6 litres of water per minute;
  • Retrofit of ‘WELS 4 star rated’ toilets (4.5 litres per full flush and 3 litres per half flush) to replace single flush toilets or old high volume dual flush toilets. 

For non-residential properties, where non-residential customers are offered the opportunity to participate in the Program, the Service will be limited to:

  • an Inspection;
  • Repair leaking taps, toilet cisterns and urinals at the property by conducting maintenance and replacing worn valves/washers where required (flick mix taps and damaged tap fixtures/piping is not included)
  • Evaporative air conditioner system check and reset (if required).

Inefficient plumbing Fixtures to be retrofitted with new water efficient fixtures as follows:

  • Retrofit standard taps with more robust external taps less likely to leak or be left running for caravan parks or similar sites where required;
  • Retrofit of appropriate WELS star rated taps (higher rated taps for hand basins compared with sinks) in kitchens and bathrooms;
  • Retrofit ‘WELS 4 star rated’ water efficient showerheads to deliver 7.5 litres per minute, replacing inefficient showerheads (fixed and flexible showerheads only);
  • Retrofit ‘WELS 4 star rated’ aerators to sink/basins taps where suitable and required for greater efficiency to deliver 6 litres of water per minute;
  • Retrofit of ‘WELS 4 star rated’ toilets (4.5 litres per full flush and 3 litres per half flush) to replace single flush toilets or old high volume dual flush toilets.

By registering for this Program, You agree and consent to the Corporation providing Your name, address and contact details to the Plumber in order for the Plumber to contact You to arrange the Inspection and to undertake the Services.

Once the Corporation has determined that You are eligible for the Program, the Corporation will provide Your Details to a Plumber and the Plumber will contact You to arrange an Inspection of Your property.

The Corporation will make a note of Your participation in the Program on its internal customer database.

Registrations of interest must be received by 1 May 2022.

The Corporation is not liable for any claims or loss suffered as a result of You participating in the Program, unless, and only to the extent that, the Corporation has been negligent.

The Corporation is not liable for any plumbing work undertaken by the Plumber and has no responsibility to maintain, repair or replace, and does not have any interest or ownership of, any Fixtures installed, provided, repaired, retrofitted or replaced in accordance with the Program.
