In September 2017 we began working with White Ribbon Australia on their world-first Workplace Accreditation Program and have signed a statement to formalise this commitment.

The program targets and empowers men and women as active bystanders to 'be the change', promoting gender equality and making women's safety a man's issue, too. The Workplace Accreditation Program will support us with tools to respond to and prevent incidents of violence occurring inside or outside the workplace. Our goal is to achieve this accreditation by late 2018.

About White Ribbon Australia

White Ribbon believes that all forms of violence are unacceptable and acknowledges that both men and women experience violence. The White Ribbon campaign is a male-led movement that chooses to focus on the prevention of violence against women, the most prevalent form of violence in Australia.

According to current statistics:

  • 1 in 5 women experiences harassment within the workplace.
  • Over 12 months, on average, one woman is killed every week as a result of intimate partner violence.
  • 1 in 3 women has experienced physical and/or sexual violence perpetrated by someone known to them.
  • Domestic violence impacts an employee’s ability to perform tasks in the workplace.
  • Information and communication technologies can be used to perpetrate violence against women.

Like White Ribbon Australia, we believe it is everyone’s responsibility to reject and prevent violence.

Our commitment

As part of our commitment to creating a safer workplace for both men and women, we have implemented a Family and Domestic Violence Policy. Understanding the traumatic nature of family and domestic violence, we will support any employee who is having difficulty performing tasks at work because of family and domestic violence.

White Ribbon Committee

As part of our Workplace Accreditation, we have established a White Ribbon Committee, who met for the first time in May 2018. The Committee is made up of men and women from across Water Corporation, including members of Executive, our People and Capability team and employee representatives from regional WA and our Perth metro sites.

In the community

We are proud to participate in White Ribbon fundraising and education campaigns such as White Ribbon Day in November, and Cheese for Change in March.

If you have any questions about Water Corporation’s commitment to White Ribbon Accreditation or our Family and Domestic Violence policy, please contact our Employment Relations Team.
